From ‘E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial’ to ‘Independence Day,’ Hollywood has done a great job of showcasing different sides of aliens. While the human race has yet to interact with an alien (officially), there hasn’t been any shortage of UFO sightings.

Moreover, programs such as Project Sign, Project Blue Book, and most recently, the Advanced Aviation Threat Identification Program (AATIP), were launched so that more information about the unidentified flying objects could be unveiled. In the last 20 years alone, several major UFO sightings have been reported that have caught the attention of the US government. Here are five such examples.

1: O’Hare International Airport UFO Sighting (2006)

Everything was going according to the plan at the O’Hare International Airport in Chicago, Illinois on November 7, 2006. A flight was all set to start its journey to North Carolina when an employee spotted a dark grey saucer flying over gate C17.

It turns out that the employee wasn’t hallucinating since 12 United Airlines employees spotted the same craft hovering over the airport around 4:15 p.m. As per the witnesses, the UFO kept circling the airport for about five minutes before it shot upward by poking a hole in the clouds.

This incident was covered in international news but since the radar failed to capture the mysterious craft, the FAA debunked this sighting by calling it a “weather phenomenon.” This matter was then swept under the rug.

2: The USS Nimitz “Tic-Tac” UFO Sighting (2004)

Now, let’s go back to November 14, 2004, when the USS Princeton (part of the USS Nimitz carrier strike group) observed a mysterious object on radar barely 100 miles off the San Diego coast.

Two fighter jets immediately flew to the said location but were only able to see water in motion. However, a couple of moments later, a white object emerged from under the surface of the water. This object had a Tic-Tac shape.

Even though attempts were made to intercept this mysterious craft, no fighter jet was able to do so since the UFO vanished swiftly. It is said that upon being chased, the craft moved at triple the speed of sound and double the speed of an advanced fighter plane.

3: Multiple UFO Sightings in Stephenville, Texas (2008)

Stephenville is a somewhat quiet city in Texas, away from the hassles of the busy urban life of Dallas and Austin. However, the said city garnered its fair share of publicity on January 8, 2008, when several citizens reported strange activities in the sky.

As per the witnesses, initially, white lights appeared above Highway 67 in a horizontal arc. However, they soon adjusted their arrangement and ended up scattered across the sky in the form of vertical parallel lines. These “lights” reportedly spanned around a mile in length and a half-mile in width.

As per the US Air Force, this unusual incident might have been created due to the F-16s flying southwest of Stephenville. However, many witnesses weren’t convinced.

4: The Unresolved UFO Sighting Above the New Jersey Turnpike (2001)

This incident was reported on July 14, 2001, when a crowd gathered on the New Jersey Turnpike to gaze at the orange-and-yellow lights formed in a V arrangement right above the Arthur Kill Waterway.

Eventually, a group that goes by the name New York Strange Phenomena Investigators (NY-SPI) stated that it had acquired radar data from the FAA that verified the presence of UFOs that night.

5: The Go Fast Incident (2015)

In 2017, a video surfaced that featured a high-speed encounter between a mysterious white-colored and oval-shaped flying object and a F/A-18 Super Hornet. This chasing event happened along the East Coast over the Atlantic Ocean. However, no clarification or follow-up was provided to the public.
